Make the demonstration about you.
Try the tasks you will repeat: sitting down, placing your feet, securing the belt and moving the control. Ask to see how the chair swivels at the top. Do not assume that a feature demonstrated on one model is included in another quote.
If manually folding a footrest or turning the seat is difficult, compare suitable powered options and their cost. The seller should explain operation, charging and what happens if you let go of the control or the lift stops.
Ask where you can stand and where any walking aid will wait at each end of the proposed route. If transfer support is needed, involve the appropriate assessor or occupational therapist. Your ability to use the chair comfortably matters more than selecting the longest list of features.
Three questions for your Upper Arlington comparison
- Can I try the exact controls and swivel being quoted?
- Which powered options solve a real difficulty for me?
- Where will I sit down and stand up at both landings?
Before requesting an assessment
Describe the route and the rooms you want to reach. Give your actual OH address and ask the provider to confirm service there. The person who will use the chair should be involved in a demonstration and the final choice of seat, controls and stopping positions.
If you are helping someone else, use the printable checklist together. You do not need to choose a model before discussing the route, but the installer needs measurements before confirming fit.
A useful next step
Read the buyer checklist for a closer look at this decision. Compare an itemized total and named support arrangements before placing an order.
